Allegory of life
The ups and downs of my own existence, their meaning and self-interpretation.
In the work Allegory Of Life I visually process the so-called ups and downs of my own existence. The work is to be understood as one of many possibilities of representation.
All of our lives are characterised by ups and downs. It is therefore not surprising that the ups and downs theme is often taken up metaphorically. For example, we symbolically go up a staircase in the case of success or down a staircase in the case of painful experiences.
I do not agree with the general meaning, as in-depth self-reflection has often led me to a far more positive interpretation. Ultimately, it is a question of not giving negative connotations to so-called descents from the outset, but rather of welcoming and appreciating them.
Furthermore, we should realise that things cannot and do not always go upwards. Phases of rest, quiet and contemplation, but also taking the time to get an overview, prove to be valuable.
I also value a conscious descent into the depths of being, into protected enclaves of retreat and our own imagination.
The digital artwork is called "Allegory of life" and shows an architectural building section in minimal style.
Two external staircases, connected by a landing, run from the bottom left to the top right. They are angled away from each other in an L-shape.
To their left, both staircases are flush with the respective outer wall of the building. To their right they are open, there is no closing railing or similar.
From the landing, the building can be entered via a door-like entrance. What is inside the structure is not visible.
Walls, floors and stairs have a smooth, matt texture whose light blue base colour becomes a clear, rich shade of blue in the shade - depending on the intensity of the shade, its brightness levels vary. In sunlight, however, the base colour appears white.
To the right in the background are the horizon and the sea, which are also rendered in blue. To delimit both picture elements, different colour gradients were chosen on the one hand and on the other hand the supposed line of contact was discreetly rendered in white.
Allergory of life is a digital painting from the series "Breath" and was created by the artist Friedrich Siever in 2022.
