Duality 3.0
Ultimately, Duality 3.0 can be understood as a plea for a peaceful, harmonious and balanced coexistence of value systems.
In this digital painting, I explored the relationship between binarity and other related systems, such as ternary systems and multipolarities. Each of these systems is characterised by demarcation, independent existence and opposition.
Before and during the creative process, I was mentally influenced by various pairs of opposites such as mortality and immortality, security and risk, but also proximity and distance.
Ultimately, Duality 3.0 can be understood as a plea for a peaceful, harmonious and balanced coexistence of value systems.
In the work, the different systems are recognisable as independent elements. Moreover, they reinforce each other's effect, creating a kind of symbiosis.
There is an inside and an outside, which is reflected on the one hand in the limited protected space and on the other hand in the infinite expanse of the sea.
Ternary systems are represented, for example, by the window angles, the leading lines towards the corner of the room and the outer surfaces - beach, sea, sky. The gradients used stand for the transitions between the systems.
The surreal artwork Duality 3.0 shows a sandy beach flowing into the sea against a blue horizon through two windows.
The windows are a combination of oval window and arched window with an oval arch at the top end of the window and a straight horizontal finish at the bottom. They are open, no glass pane or French doors are visible.
Both windows have different heights and are attached to different walls. Thus, the larger window can be seen on the wall straight ahead and takes up almost the entire height of the wall running straight ahead. The sea behind it runs parallel to the wall or to the straight end of the window.
The second, smaller window is located in the left wall. Both walls run at right angles to each other, with the left wall sloping upwards so that the top of this wall cannot be seen.
The architectural ceiling connecting both walls at the top slopes upwards to match the left wall. The distance from ceiling to floor is smallest at the right angle of the two walls and increases towards the viewer.
The light coming in from the right provides a clear, darker roof shadow in the upper section of the picture up to the larger window. A clear shadow in the left window as well as a diffuse daylight shadow that stretches across the walls, windows and floor.
The empty beach has an almost white blue tone with "bubbles". This consists of 31% red, 34% green and 35% blue with a brightness of 100%. In comparison, the lightest wall tone with the colour "Water" is 3% darker and has 3% more saturation. In the darkest areas with diffuse shadows, the walls even have a blue content of 44% with a saturation of 49% and a brightness of 83%. In the dark shadows from the ceiling, the blue content is almost identical to that from the sand, but the brightness is only 35%.
With "Maya Blue", the sea as well as the blue gradient of the horizon running towards Denim have a strong hue. Thus, walls, windows & CO are clearly set off from the beach, sea and horizon that can be seen outside, although this work of art basically only consists of different shades of blue.
Duality 3.0 is a digital painting from the series "Breath" and was created by the artist Friedrich Siever in 2022.
